Southern Front Porch Decorating Ideas

Welcome to Christmas at Worthing Court's decorated front porch! Our porch is a large, rather deep, covered one that runs across much of the front of the house. It's a traditional Southern porch meant to help keep you cooler in the summer and keep you out of any harsh weather in the winter.

It doesn't take a lot of fussy decorations to create a festive eye catching front porch that will welcome your guests in true Christmas fashion! I like to make sure that the colors and types of decorations that I use on my porch reflect what I've used on the inside of the house. So this year, you'll find lots of reds and sage greens with a sprinkling of pretty snowy white on the porch.

A pair of black baskets, filled with fresh ivy, flank my Southern front door year round and I simply change out what I display in each basket for the season. This year, each basket contains a 4′ pre-lit artificial tree that I've dressed up with a few snowy picks with red berries.

I almost always make my own Christmas wreaths for the front door, even if it's something as simple as adorning a DIY wreath with a beautiful bow. My front door wreath this year is just a continuation of my fall wreath, but I removed the mini pumpkins and added sprigs of frosted artificial greenery and a few red berries tucked into the eucalyptus leaves. Super easy and it makes a nice simple statement on my door!

I'm a big fan of symmetry, so each end of our porch holds a pair of Adirondack glider chairs and a black bench filled with neutral cushions.

Instead of adding seasonal pillows to the benches, I opted for displaying a wreath, dressed with the same ribbon as the bows on the outdoor lights that hang beside the front door, and a cozy sherpa fleece lined blanket.

Having been raised in Wisconsin, where they have more snow than they know what to do with, my husband doesn't get excited about snow like this Southern born and bred girl does! Anytime we are fortunate to have a beautiful winter snowfall, I do my best to convince him to wrap up in blankets and join me on the gliders with a cup of hot cocoa to breathe in the crisp air. I love to enjoy the hushed quiet that comes with a blanket of new fallen snow.
